What is Kappa Kappa Psi?
Kappa Kappa Psi is a fraternity made up of diverse members who serve college and university band programs. Our goals are to provide assistance to bands on campus while fostering a wholesome community within our organization.
The Fraternity is currently located in over 150 colleges and universities nationwide. On the local level, chapter responsibilities include numerous concentrated service projects as well as providing the band members an opportunity to make friends and close bonds with one another.
Membership in Kappa Kappa Psi is an educational and service activity as well as a social one. And it is this kind of activity that enriches the band student’s life and sharpens an appreciation for both the best in music and what it takes to achieve it.
How can I join?
Joining KKY is a fairly straightforward process. Over the course of a few weeks during the fall there will be tons of fun events for you to meet the brothers of the chapter. You should attend as many recruitment events as you can (minimum of 2) as that will give you a solid idea if this organization is a good fit for you. After the end of the two weeks, you will have 1 week to sign up for a get-to-know-you conversation with an active brother. Finally at the end of that same week you will need to submit your prospective member application. If your application or "Bid" gets approved then you will be invited to go through our education program which acts as your "free trial" into Kappa Kappa Psi to make sure it's a good fit for you!
If you are unable to attend a minimum of 2 recruitment events, you can still join KKY. Our chapter can extend "bid nominations" to those that the chapter feels like embody the values of Kappa Kappa Psi. For this process you do not need to apply, but the chapter can vote to extend a bid. If recruitment presents any hardships please email gammavicepres@gmail.com and we can work to accommodate you!

(1) Is Kappa Kappa Psi the same as social Sororities or Fraternities that are portrayed in the media?
Answer: No! We do not have a house, party or haze. We are an anti-hazing and dry fraternity. We believe that brotherhood is built through our shared passion for service and music. Although our organization uses Greek Letters, this is not the same as Greek Life. We are not a part of any of the Greek Councils and officially are an RSO of UW.
(2) If I go through recruitment does that mean I am committed to being an active member?
Answer: No! Recruitment is an opportunity to explore KKPsi. If you decide to pursue membership you will go through an educational journey (occurs during Winter Quarter) learning the mission, vision and values of this organization. This educational journey is like a free trial into KKY and does not mean you have committed to being an active member. it is not until spring quarter that you have the opportunity to become a brother in full active standing. So you will have recruitment until the end of Winter Quarter to decide if you would like to be an active member.
(3) Is this organization only open to Males?
Answer: No! Kappa Kappa Psi is a diverse Fraternity inclusive of all genders, sexualities, etc. We recognize that the term “Fraternity” can be misleading and does not imply that we are an inclusive organization.
(4) Does it cost money to join KKPsi?
Answer: Unfortunately, like all organizations, we need funding to keep the chapter running. We as a chapter have to pay dues to the National Organization. It’s $130 yearly per member and $150 for new members. We do acknowledge that we as college students pay a lot of money in tuition. Finances should not be a barrier to join so we have a scholarship & grant fund in place to make sure all members (current & new) can pay dues. We also have the ability to set up payment plans.
